Civil Law is Roman Law

The civil law reduces an ungrateful freeman to slavery. Just what is the civil law?

In America, the civil law IS Roman Law.
The Constitution contains Latin phrases because our laws are brutal Roman laws.
That is why lawyers’ law maxims are in Latin. Maxims are fundamental principles.

Law Dictionary definition of Civil Law

Roman law is sometimes brutal.
Roman law allows coercion. For example, you are forced into court. You are forced to testify. You can be held in jail as a material witness.
Once you are coerced — You have no right to petition government for redress of grievances.
